Dr. Theodoros Chíou
Dr. Theodoros Chíou is a qualified attorney at law before the Supreme Court of Greece and Intellectual Property Law expert, Member of the Athens Bar association since 2008.
He is the founder and managing director of the homonymous law office based in Athens, Greece (Dr. Theodoros Chíou & Partners, Intellectual Property and Internet Law Office - IPRightsGR), specialized in IP law and new technologies. Ηe offers consulting and litigation services that cover the whole range of Intellectual Property Law, Internet Law and new media and technologies law.
Dr. Theodoros Chíou holds a Law degree from the Law School of the University of Athens, a Masters degree (Master 2 Droit de la propriété intellectuelle) and a PhD in Intellectual Property Law, both from the University of Strasbourg-CEIPI. For his PhD thesis "Towards a European Law of IP Exploitation Contracts" he obtained the 2015 prize of the Research Federation “Europe en mutation”, University of Strasbourg/CNRS.
He is a former scholarship holder of the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), former research fellow (allocataire de recherche) of the University of Strasbourg, a former scholarship holder and guest researcher (Stipendiat) at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition. Among others, he has represented ELSA (European Law Students Association) as a delegator at the World Intellectual Property Organisation and he has worked as external scientific collaborator of the Greek Industrial Property Oragnisation.
He is currently an Law Lecturer in Copyright Law at the University Sorbonne Paris Nord/IdeF and he is the Coordinator and Lecturer of the course "Information Law" within the Master Program titled "Information Management in Libraries, Archives and Museums", Department of Archival, Library and Information Studies, University of West Attica.
He has taught intellectual property law, internet law, data protection law and e-commerce law as adjunct lecturer at the University of Strasbourg. Ηe regularly publishes in Greek and international law journals and he speaks in conferences and seminars related with IP law & digital tehcnologies and innovation law. He is a co-founder of the project Dress and the law and the founder and editor of the law portal www.iprights.gr.
